Value-For-Money Cai Png Stall Sells 1 Meat 1 Veg Rice At $2.50 With Huge Portions
Dining out can get very expensive these days due to rising food costs, even if you are eating cai png.
But longtime Jurong East hawker stall Lam Chan Mixed Veg Rice is still selling its economic rice at economical prices — a plate with 1 veg + 1 meat, or 3 veg (all with rice) costs just $2.50.

Portions are huge
A 2 veg + 1 meat + rice combination is priced at $3, and 2 meat, 1 veg + rice at $3.50. The prices are extra reasonable considering that you get very generous portions. Our tray of cai png was a heap of plump sardine, cabbage and onion omelette with curry gravy drizzled over rice.
We were expecting our omelette order to be charged as a meat dish, as we were burnt too many times at kopitiam cai fan stalls. To our surprise, the fluffy omelette fried with large pieces of onions was considered as veg.
The selection of dishes we saw during our visit was also pretty good; there was sweet-and-sour pork, fried chicken, fried fish, chicken curry, ngoh hiang and stir-fried brinjal in bean sauce. While not fancy, the food here is tasty in a homecooked way and very hearty.
There’s always a queue
Lam Chan is very popular with Jurong residents who are looking for a wallet-friendly, filling meal. Which explains why there’s always a queue at the stall.
The auntie and uncle hawkers manning the stall aren’t the friendliest, but they are extremely efficient and unafraid to pile your plate high.
While its official opening hours are weekdays 9am to 5pm, the stall sometimes closes as early as around 1pm (just after lunchtime) when it has sold out of all its food. So drop by earlier if you want to have lunch here.
#01-180 Yuhua Market & Food Centre, 347 Jurong East Ave 1, S600347. Open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm or till sold out.
