Vivian Chow’s Home Has Become A Hangout For HK’s Endangered Parrots
Hong Kong singer-actress Vivian Chow, 55, is an animal lover.
She frequently shares pics of her three cats on Instagram and the generous star is known to volunteer and raise funds for non-profit organisations to care for strays.
Recently, her Hong Kong home has been getting visits from several neighbourhood parrots, much to the delight of Vivian and her husband, writer Joe Nieh.
Last month, she shared pics of three parrots that flew into her balcony, calling them Siew Bak, Siew Gun and Siew Kwai.
"The smallest of the three parrots that visited us the last time has come to see us again. Initially we saw them perched on the scaffolding of the building opposite, and then we watched it fly towards us and stood proudly on the [balcony] railing. We have been watching it with great joy. Let me and my husband name you Siew Bak, okay?" she wrote on Instagram.
Turns out, those are no ordinary parrots.
The yellow-crested cockatoo, known for its white plumage and bright yellow crest, is a critically endangered species under the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List.
With only about 2,000 of them remaining in the world, they are rarer than giant pandas and face the threat of extinction anytime.
According to reports, Hong Kong is home to around 10 per cent of the global population of the yellow-crested cockatoo. They are commonly seen in large parks and Mid-Levels area.
Meet the "Four Heavenly Kings of the parrot world"
Last week, the trio visited Vivian and brought along a friend, so of course Vivan had it give it a name as well.
"We have another guest, what should I name it?” she asked her followers.
There were suggestions to name it Siu Man or Siu V, after Vivian 'cos it proves the star's home has "a very good vibe”.
A fan also dubbed them the “Four Heavenly Kings of the parrot world”, and that “in future, more and more would come to [her] home”.
