Vivian Hsu’s Friend Says The Star is “Not Highly Educated” Because She Had To Support Her Family Financially When She Was 15

Taiwanese star Vivian Hsu, 47, has been busy preparing for her upcoming concert at the Taipei Arena. The concert, on May 7, will see her performing at the esteemed venue for the first time.

This, however, has put her in the spotlight (again), resulting in some not-so-nice comments about her singing abilities, among other things.

In steps Vivian's pal and Little Big Women co-star Ding Ning, who wasted no time in jumping to the former’s defense.

“With all the negative comments about V’s voice, the one criticism that really angered me was the one that said she isn't highly educated!” Ding Ning, 51, wrote on Facebook.

“Do you know why [she didn't pursue her studies]? It was to get first place and win a motorbike at the talent show she participated in," wrote Ding Ning.

For those not in the know, Vivian got her start in showbiz after winning Taiwanese competition show Talented Beautiful Girl in 1990 when she was just 15.

Ding Ning continued: "She is from a single parent family, and her mum, who had to raise three kids was unable to pay rent on time, so [Vivian] wanted to help with the family’s expenses.”

“She felt that earning money for her family was more important than studying at that time 'cos she could always go back to school later. [You] should really think before criticising others. Such success doesn’t happen by accident,” added Ding Ning.

And it's true. Vivian did go on to finish her education, eventually graduating with a master's degree from Shih Hsin University.

The super supportive Ding Ning then ended her post by sending her well wishes to Vivian for her upcoming concert.
