Zhang Ziyi & Wang Feng Withdraw Investment From Film Company Sparking Rumours That There’s Trouble In Their Personal Lives
When news that Zhang Ziyi and Wang Feng, who have been married since 2015 and have two kids together, withdrew their respective investments from Xinying Jiaying (Xinyi) Film Culture Development on Dec 17, many netizens quickly jumped to the conclusion that the couple are either getting a divorce (ala Wang Leehom and Lee Jinglei) or are next in line for a government-sanctioned tax audit.
We certainly don't blame anyone for thinking that something fishy is going on given the climate in the Chinese showbiz scene.
Ziyi & Wang Feng's withdrawal from Xinyi was confirmed on Dec 17
Xinyi’s business scope includes the production and distribution of movies and TV shows, and has registered capital of 11mil yuan (S$2.37mil).
Ziyi and Wang Feng reportedly held 2.25 per cent of the company’s shares prior to Dec 17.
According to Tianyancha, Ziyi is currently a shareholder of 27 companies, has a controlling interest in 62 companies, is the legal representative of five companies and holds an executive position in 10 companies.
Wang Feng, on the other hand, is shareholder of 16 companies, has a controlling interest in 40 companies, is the legal representative of five companies and holds an executive position in six companies.
Despite their impressive portfolios, the couple only have joint investments in one company: Lanshanzhu (Beijing) Culture Media, which has a registered capital of 100K yuan (S$21.4K).
But what does this all mean? According to netizens, they find it odd that the couple keep their business dealings mostly separate, and that Ziyi and Wang Feng pulling out of Xinyi, which is one of the two companies they have joint investments in, could mean something serious.
Thought, let's be honest, it's also perfectly normal for a couple to keep their business dealings separate — after all, they're adults who are able to make their own financial decisions.
We wonder if they'll be responding to the rumours
However, no one seems to be taking the divorce rumours seriously, since Ziyi regularly posts photos with Wang Feng on social media. Unlike say Leehom, whose wife was MIA on his socials for two years before they announced their split.
Ziyi also previously mentioned that she and Wang Feng are so close that they speak on the phone every day even when they are in the same city.
