On Dec 31, 2023 (Sunday), YG Entertainment unveiled the future plans of their new girl group BabyMonster in a video titled BabyMonster Next Phase.
The video, which YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk fronted, was rife with information, including details of BabyMonster's upcoming single and the plans surrounding trainee Ahyeon, who could not debut with BabyMonster due to health issues.
Yang revealed that BabyMonster's new single is titled Stuck In The Middle and will drop on Feb 1. The song will not be a hip-hop track, making it a departure from YG Entertainment's signature sound.
Yang added that the song felt fresh to him and listening to it "felt like being in a state of zero gravity in outer space".
The video also provided an insight into Yang's relationship with the members of BabyMonster. According to him, he views them as "his daughters" as opposed to junior artistes, given their young ages.
Chiquita, the youngest member of BabyMonster, was born in 2009 – making her a year older than Yang's daughter.
On the topic of trainee Ahyeon, Yang said that the 16-year-old "had to stop training for a few months due to health reasons".
However, Yang hinted that the door for her to join BabyMonster again is not closed.
"It is uncertain when Ahyeon will join (the group), so I will inform you publicly in due course," he added.
The videos ends with Yang revealing that BabyMonster will release their first mini-album sometime in April this year.
