South Korean singer Jennie has issued an apology, via her agency Odd Atelier, after a public outcry surrounding a video that showed the Blackpink member vaping indoors. The video, which has since been deleted, showed Jennie exhaling smoke from a vape pen while getting her hair and makeup done by makeup artists.
While many K-pop idols have been caught smoking in the past, it appears that netizens are taking issue with Jennie exhaling the smoke in the direction of her makeup artists.
A netizen wrote: "Blowing smoke in someone's face isn't right. Does she not see the staff as people?"
It is not clear as to where the video was filmed, with some speculating that the video was shot on the island of Capri in Italy.
However, it is illegal to smoke indoors in both South Korea and Italy. Seoul's foreign ministry previously told news agency AFP that it had received a formal complaint about the incident.
On Tuesday (Jul 9), Odd Atelier issued an apology on the social media platform X.
"We sincerely apologise to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions in the content released on Jul 2.
"Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff. Jennie has personally apologised to all the staff on-site who may have been affected. We apologise to her fans who have been disappointed through this incident. We hope to prevent this from reoccurring in the future."
