What could be a better tribute to the late Christopher Reeve, the actor who first played Superman on the big screen, than having his real-life son Will Reeve make a cameo in the new Superman movie?
The 32-year-old Will was seen embracing director James Gunn in behind-the-scenes photos and videos taken in Cleveland, where the movie is being made. The movie is expected to hit cinemas in July 2025.
In a case of reel life mimicking real life, Will, who is an actual ABC News correspondent, will be playing a Metropolis TV reporter in the film.
The late Reeve played the Man of Steel and his alter ego Clark Kent in the first four Superman movies in 1978, 1980, 1983 and 1987.
In this latest version written and directed by Gunn, David Corenswet dons the iconic red-and-blue suit.
Meanwhile, Will and his older siblings Matthew and Alexandra will be featured in the upcoming documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. It tells the story of their father’s life, particularly his disability activism after a horse-riding accident left him paralysed in 1995 before Will was three years old. He died in 2004.
“The majority of my memories of my dad involve him after the accident because I was not yet three years old when he was injured,” Will told Variety.
“So to see his entire life leading up until that time laid out so poetically and cinematically and authentically by our wonderful directors has been a real gift for me.”
Following the documentary’s 2024 Sundance Film Festival premiere, Super/Man was acquired by Warner Bros Discovery for US$15 million (S$20 million), reported The Wrap.
Super/Man is scheduled to hit the big screen in the US on Sep 21, followed by an encore presentation on Sep 25, Christopher Reeve’s birthday.
