The Malaysian state of Melaka is set to get even more popular soon as its chief minister, Ab Rauf Yusoh, recently announced that acclaimed Chinese actress Fan Bingbing will be Melaka's tourism ambassador.

Mr Ab Rauf revealed the news in an Instagram post on Monday (May 27), sharing that he recently had a meeting with Fan's manager to "lay out details".

Mr Ab Rauf added that Fan Bingbing, 42, will visit Melaka from Jun 14 to 16 – during which she will be officially appointed Melaka's tourism ambassador on Jun 15.

"I believe the presence of Fan Bingbing...will attract more tourists, especially from China and Asia, to visit Melaka."

In December 2023, Fan visited the Malaysian state of Johor where she met Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar – calling the experience "an unforgettable honour".

Fan Bingbing rose to fame in the late 90s through her role in the drama series My Fair Princess. Her popularity grew even more in 2003 when she starred in the film Cell Phone which became China's highest-grossing movie of the year.

Now, her attention is geared towards managing her beauty brand Fan Beauty Official which recently opened its online store in Singapore on May 27.
