They say getting along with your mother-in-law can be tricky but lucky for former Mediacorp actress Felicia Chin, her husband Jeffrey Xu's mum is so chill that they are basically friends.
In a recent video she posted on Instagram, the 39-year-old shared that her mother-in-law, who lives in Shanghai, was recently in Singapore when Jeffrey was in Malaysia for work.
"Honestly, I was a little nervous at first. I had never spent time alone with my mum-in-law under one roof," Felicia confessed.
Thankfully, all her worries were unfounded.
"We had different convos, some more heartfelt, others really mundane stuff. I felt her support for Mingjie for the arts (since he was a kid) to be refreshing. So, (I) am sharing some of her views with you!" wrote Felicia.
What exactly did they talk about?
In the video, Felicia first asked Jeffrey's mother how did she nurture her son's interest in acting and the sacrifices she had made to realise his dream.
Her response was: "Since young, Jeffrey has loved to perform. Be it singing or dancing, he started doing them by himself. I just wanted Jeffrey to grow up happy; as long as he has the ability to support himself, that was enough for me."
Was Jeffrey's mother ever worried that he wasn't excelling in his studies?
"I'm very optimistic. If he thinks he can manage, I won't force him to go for tuition or anything," she said.
That then prompted Felicia to ask: "Have you ever regretted supporting Jeffrey in pursuing his dreams?"
Her mother-in-law said: "Never, not even a single bit. As long as he's willing to learn, I'm okay with whatever skill he chooses to pick up."
Through Felicia, Jeffrey also took this opportunity to ask his mother if she had any expectations of him.
"I just want him to be healthy and lead a blissful life with his wife, that will make me the happiest," replied Jeffrey's mother.
