Blackpink’s Lisa has just released the music video to her new single Rockstar – and you might recognise some of the scenes, which were filmed in Bangkok.

The video, which was out on Friday (Jun 28), featured some parts of the Thai capital's Chinatown area, including the New World Banglamphu shopping mall and Yaowarat Road, which is renowned for its food stalls, dessert spots and restaurants – particularly the long-standing Chinatown Scala and a myriad of neon signs showing Texas Suki restaurant and stores that sell birds’ nests.

X account Pop Base posted that Lisa, whose real name is Lalisa Manobal, paid 20,000 baht (S$737) to each shop in the area “to close early for her Rockstar music video shoot”. Other sources said that in order to keep the news from leaking, she chose to film before 5am.

Eagle-eyed fans have also placed the video’s escalator scene in the Oscar Theatre, which opened in 1976 as a first-class experience for movie-goers at the time. It has since been abandoned after closing in the early 2000s.

Rockstar was released under the new partnership between RCA Records and Lisa’s management company, Lloud Co, which she started earlier this year.

The single, which she co-wrote, was first teased on TikTok earlier this month, when she joined the platform and set a Guinness World Record for gaining one million followers in just over two hours.

The music video has had 11 million views on YouTube just six hours after it was released.

Lisa made her solo debut In 2021 with the two-track single album Lalisa, which included the title track and Money. The following year, she made history when Lalisa won best K-pop at both the MTV Video Music Awards and the MTV Europe Music Awards, making her the first K-pop solo artist to win at both shows.
