Expensive gifts are great but sometimes all we need are the right words from the people we love.
It's why for Mediacorp actor Chew Chor Meng's 55th birthday on Nov 20, his wife Deon Tan, 48, chose to gift him a video filled with blessings from his beloved family members and friends.
The video included the actor's showbiz pals such as Rayson Tan, Choo Houren, Belinda Lee and celeb couple Felicia Chin and Jeffrey Xu.
Taking to her Instagram to share the video, Deon wrote: "Blessed 55th Darling! The best view with your 55th lens is not how much you have achieved or attained. It is also not how much you have impressed upon people but how much you have inspired and impacted lives."
She continued: "The best gift I have for your 55th birthday is not Prada or Gucci but words of (affirmation) and (love) from friends and families that journey with us."
The actor also shared a post on his Instagram to commemorate his big day.
"Let's continue moving forward step by step and keep enjoying the beautiful things in life," he wrote, adding the hashtags "thankful", "happy fifty-five" and "(I) can withdraw my CPF already".
In 2008, Chor Meng, who's now battling spinal muscular atrophy, was diagnosed with a rare muscle-wasting genetic disorder known as Kennedy’s Disease.
Doctors then said that the actor only had 18 months to live. Now that 15 years have passed, we can understand why his 55th birthday is such a big milestone for Chor Meng and his family.
